Food, glorious food! That delectable stuff that tickles our tastebuds is undeniably one of life’s greatest pleasures. Tragically, it has been blasphemed by some as a ‘guilty’ pleasure – and to this we most adamantly object! After all, food is kinda one of those necessities of life, ya know?
This is a memo for anyone who ever finds themselves feeling a bit naughty after tallying their monthly food expenditure (um, don’t do that. Just don’t. Food consumption is non-negotiable if you’re planning to keep kicking it for a while yet, and food costs money. Accept that, and move on.)
To the contrary, nourishing your body with good food will be a lifelong investment, and here’s why:
A good diet has many physical health benefits. Food serves two main services: it fuels our bodies with energy to sustain us throughout the day; and it delivers the required nutrients to facilitate growth and repair, boosting our immune systems and keeping us strong.
The internet is currently over-saturated with fitspo clean-eating blogs, so we won’t bore you with tedious facts. You know the spiel: fuel your body with all that colourful natural stuff and you will reap the benefits in the form of a healthy weight, clear and glowing skin, and a first-rate immune system.
But wait! The health benefits of wholesome, mindful eating don’t stop there! A healthy diet has been proven to improve cognitive function, and prevent depression and other mental illnesses.
Around half of all Australians will have mental health difficulties during their lifetime. And while this might be a bit of a gloomy forecast, research continues to prove that people with a healthy diet and eating patters are less likely to experience depression; and factors such as high cholesterol, elevated blood sugar and high BMI have been identified as risk factors for dementia.
At the very least, all of us can relate to the all-too-familiar brain-fog and inattentiveness that results after skipping a meal or binging on refined sugar.
Eating should be a social event. In Australia, our demanding work culture has meant that overtime work is often prioritised over mealtimes shared with family and friends. It is quite usual for family members to eat separately, or for adults to scoff down lunch from their office desk – or to skip a meal altogether.
It’s time we took some advice from our friends across the waters! In Germany, families often return home from school and work to eat lunch together, and in Italy, dinnertime is a jolly social event that is never compromised by work or other commitments.
Here at Burnt Orange, we know the value of social mealtimes. They are a time to relax, to unwind, to debrief, to connect, and to enjoy the company of friends and family. In an era where computers and online systems require us to engage less and less with other people, it is essential that the sanctity of mealtimes is upheld.
It is well a well-known fact that regular socialising is beneficial to both our physical and mental health, and here at Burnt Orange, we reckon we can help you out on all three fronts: we know the value of a tasty, well-balanced diet and social mealtimes. We offer fresh, delicious meals that use high-quality ingredients and our dining rooms are cosy, friendly, and have all the good feels. Plus, for the month of November you can score lunch for $45 (including wine and desert), which means you don't even have to break your budget.
And given the pure, unadulterated joy that food brings (think: the moment you realise the waiter is walking towards you with your steaming, aromatic, mouth-watering plate of spaghetti) - it’s undeniable that good tucker does wonders for your soul. Book now for a meal with your loved ones: eat good food, drink good wine, enjoy good company, lap up our beautiful views in our gorgeous dining rooms, and reap all the health benefits.
Food is not a guilty pleasure; it is an investment in your health and well-being! And if you happen to be splurging a (rather large) chunk of your income on soul-nourishing goodness, frankly, that sounds responsible and well-balanced – and we are here to support you 100%.
Because darling, you deserve it!
